Hope for North Macedonia
In 2018, Austria was the largest foreign investor with almost 650 million euros and one of the most important trading partners of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, which is regarded as the political and economic model country in the region. The economic growth of the Balkan state is stable and the reform course of the government is praised internationally as exemplary. In the recent past, thanks to the end of the name dispute with Greece and the signing of a friendship agreement with Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia has been able to overcome the final barriers on the way to NATO membership and the opening of accession negotiations with the EU. Accordingly, the heads of the EU institutions, the German Bundestag and the Republic of Austria are vehemently committed to opening accession negotiations.
